Ready for what? You might ask.
Are you ready for the imminent return of Jesus?
Jesus came to our world over 2,000 years ago and before he left, he assured his followers that he will be coming back for them and future believers.
He didn’t say exactly when he’s coming back but he told us that there will be some signs which will alert us that his return is very near.
When his disciples asked him “..what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” (Matt 24:3), he did not give them specific dates and times but instead he gave them an indication of what we should look for as signs of his coming.
Jesus outlined an intensifying of world events that will foreshadow his coming and act as a kind of signpost to tell us that the end is near.
The apostles of Jesus also wrote about the state of the world in the last days and of course, many of the prophets of the OT foretold many of the events that will occur before Jesus’ return.
When we summarise the signs, we see:
- The world (as a whole) will suffer moral decline where people are focused on pleasing themselves only, with little or no regard for others or for God
- The influence of Christianity will diminish with declining numbers and the “watering down” of its message
- Intensifying of natural disasters, diseases and warfare (wars & rumours of war)
- Israel’s rebirth as a nation (after being broken and scattered) and the country becoming fertile and prosperous after being barren for centuries
The Bible tells us that at the end-times there’ll be a period of unprecedented trouble for the whole world and over half the world’s population will die because of wars, diseases, hunger and extreme weather and climatic disasters.
This might sound far-fetched to some people, but the signs Jesus told us to watch for, were foretold 100s of years before Jesus and now we see them happening with our own eyes.
The only escape from this is faith in Jesus. As the Bible says
“But anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved ..”
Call on him today and He will save you.
